Posted to the web 27 June 2008 Effa Tambenkongho The Douala City Council, CUD, is stepping up measures to prevent floods in Douala, a flood prone city. In the past, during the rainy season, occur especially during the period of heavy rains, that is from June to September. This is because there were no drainage where water could pass when it has reached saturation point and cannot sink to the ground anymore. Last year, the City Council developed a strategy to fight against the floods. Drainage passages were created; existing ones which were blocked by household wastes, since they were used as ditches were unblocked.
