Artificially increasing insurance rates.

It is now obvious that having the highest insurance rates in the nation, 25% higher than Louisiana, isn't enough for some insurance companies. According to the Houston Chronicle, State Farm is now increasing rates based upon zip codes.AUSTIN — Retired San Antonio firefighter Ralph Arredondo was used to small annual increases in his homeowners insurance, but when his premium shot up $387 last year, he started asking questions. The answer surprised him: State Farm said the 18 percent increase was due to the U.S. Postal Service switching his neighborhood in unincorporated northern Bexar County to a different ZIP code.State Farm is not the only company artificially increasing rates, some that are not reviewed by the Texas Department of Insurance.
