Coldplay set for transatlantic double after topping UK singles chart

Jun 23 2008 By Rick Fulton COLDPLAY scored their first UK No.1 single yesterday, teeing them up for a historic double in the singles and album charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Viva La Vida took the top spot in the British download chart. They are already at the top of the American singles chart, the first British group since the Spice Girls to get a US No.1 single. Their album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, stayed at top spot in the British album charts for the second week, outselling Duffy's Rockferry at No.2 by six to one. And on Wednesday, Chris Martin and the boys are expected to go to No. 1 in the US Billboard album charts. Last night drummer Will Champion told the Razz: "We are thrilled to have our first No.1 single in the UK. "And to be No.1 on both sides of the Atlantic makes it all the more special....
