Moscow newspaper alleges Litvinenko was possibly murdered by Russian mafia living in Spain

Earlier it was sounded more than once that the bosses of Russian mafia in Spain instead of his former security services employers could poison the former Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officer Alexander Litvinenko, as he reportedly too willingly shared information about them with Spanish special services, Izvestia writes. In June 2007, Andrei Lugovoy, the main accused by the British police of Litvinenko's murder, told in an interview to Izvestia that Litvinenko shortly before his death had told him that he "was actively engaged in some development connected with crimes of natives of Russia opeeating in Spain".
