For off and on 30 years, the furniture store, presently located at 616 MacArthur Drive in Alexandria, has served Central Louisiana. Owner Jasper Fontenot said the closure has nothing to do with the economy. "I'm getting to the age where I need to back off," Fontenot said Tuesday afternoon. The store will begin a going out of business sale on Thursday, which will continue until everything is gone, he said. Brown's employed 25 employees. Fontenot said half the employees will move on to other Brown's locations while the rest decided to part ways. All employees were offered positions at other locations.
