I never had Alan Shearer down as a Mensa candidate. Whole-hearted and prolific as a player? Definitely. Appropriately subservient to Alan Hansen on the MOTD couch? Without doubt. But a wily old fox with his eye on the bigger picture? Not on your nelly. But it seems I’ve underestimated Big Al. Reading between the lines, it seems he’s bang in the frame for the Blackburn job. He refuses to deny he’s interested, Rovers haven’t ruled him out either and you know, call me a conspiracy nut, but that makes me think he’s tempted. And if he make the emotional return to Ewood Park, it would be a clever move indeed. Shearer has repeatedly flirted with a move into to management.
