John Dillinger was a real piece of work. Convicted for robbing a grocery store when he was 22, he served eight and a half years of a twenty year sentence. He started to rob banks four months after being released, and he was gunned down by FBI agents in Chicago just ten months after robbing his first bank. His entire criminal career lasted less than a year, but he made a pretty big impression in that short span of time. The film Public Enemies (2009) is a story about control. Whoever has it is successful, whoever doesn't gets shot. The film starts out with Johnny Depp depicting Dillinger as a man in control. He breaks his gang out of prison with a precise and daring plan, hiding out in a Syndicate safe house while ironing out the details for his next big job.
