However it can also cause other infections in both boys and girls which means that boys should receive the vaccine too, the British Medical Association's annual representatives meeting in Liverpool heard. The motion was passed despite Dr Hamish Meldrum, chairman of BMA council, saying the evidence had shown that vaccinating boys in England would not be cost effective.
