Woman’s apparel maker Dress Barn is trying Tween Brands on for size, in a $157 million deal that has some industry watchers scratching their head. Under the terms of the deal, Dress Barn will exchange 0.47 shares for each share of Tween, whose clothing targets girls between 7 and 14 years-old. The deal, which values Tween Brand stock at about $6.22 per share, represents a 19 percent premium over the clothing maker’s closing price Wednesday. Dress Barn, which focuses on professional women, has 841 namesake stores and 716 Maurices, which target women in their mid-20s.
