MI6 Sir John Sawers: a profile

As head of MI6, the foreign intelligence service, Sir John Sawers, known by the codename "C", will be in charge of a network of spies responsible for gathering information from across the world. By Duncan Gardham, Security Correspondent "He is very smooth," said one politician who has dealt with him. "I was very impressed. It's an interesting appointment." As a career diplomat himself, rather than a spy, Sir John will be seen as an outsider by many at the Secret Intelligence Service in Vauxhall Cross.
