MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Shares closed higher, boosted by sharp gains in the banking sector as the release of encouraging first-half results by Intesa Sanpaolo triggered buying, analysts said. The Mibtel index closed 2.03 percent higher at 22,086 points while the S&P/Mib rose 2.39 percent to 28,625 points. Volumes totalled 2.995 billion euros.
