HBOS chief executive has bank accounts raided by identity thief

The chief executive of HBOS has had his bank accounts raided by a thief who stole his identity. Andy Hornby, whose accounts have now been frozen, was on holiday when staff broke the news to him. It is thought that the thief acquired one of his old statements and used it to pose as Mr Hornby, 41, who earns £1 million a year. He is believed to have stolen at least £7,000 in one day but was caught on CCTV film making withdrawals from a branch and an ATM. A source said: "They think the thief is from an African background. He certainly looks nothing like Andy. It appears he used one of Andy's statements as proof of name and address in a branch.
