UN panel has concerns on human rights in Britain Paisley Dodds, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LONDON - The UN Human Rights Committee has criticized Britain over its tough counterterrorism laws. Among other things, a report by the committee blasts the U.K. for legislation that limits free speech. It also takes Britain to task for allowing the use of its Indian Ocean territory of Diego Garcia to secretly move suspected terrorists without legal process. The report also says Britain's Official Secrets Act - enacted during the Cold War to protect national security data - is being used to silence government whistleblowers and keep important information from the public.
