Kevin Pietersen: New England captain? At some point over the next week Michael Vaughan will wake up and see everything much clearer than he has for some time. And I hope he will have a smile on his face in recognition of what a top job he has done. He will then watch with interest as someone else takes over at the Oval with some pretty big boots to fill and in my opinion that man should be Kevin Pietersen. One of the first things Geoff Miller said when he became the national selector was that he'd rather have one captain in charge of all forms of the game and to my mind that leaves just two viable options - Pietersen and Freddie Flintoff. Only Pietersen and Flintoff are guaranteed a place in every England team when they are fit and as I understand it Fred is not desperate for the job. Fred would never say no to his country...
