Plaid AM seeks independence day

Aug 5 2008 by Tomos Livingstone, Western Mail PLAID CYMRU needs to “keep sight of its ultimate goal” of independence, one its senior figures says today. In a sign of increasing confidence in the party’s ranks about discussing the prospect of ending the union with England, Plaid AM Helen Mary Jones writes on this page that the idea of independence “is rooted in the needs of the everyday lives of the people of Wales”. Once considered a turn-off for floating voters, the idea of Welsh independence has made something of a comeback in Plaid Cymru’s strategic thinking. Later this summer the party launches the Independence Initiative, an internal group intended to promote the idea of an independent Wales.
