Aug. 4 -- A Louisiana man who drowned Sunday evening in the Gulf of Mexico was trying to rescue another swimmer. Sam Maggio, 56, of Metairie, La., was vacationing on Perdido Key with about a dozen family and friends. Deputies say they believe Maggio was one of three people who swam into the Gulf to rescue another man. Red flag warnings are in effect for all Panhandle beaches.
