'Angels' nixes Shreveport tryout

Broadway plans are up in the air Broadway-aimed tuner "Angels" has scuttled its out-of-town tryout in Shreveport, La., this summer, citing the inability to perfect the show's technical requirements in time for a run that would have begun in late August. Producers still hope to bring the musical to the Rialto, although plans are up in the air. "The entire team remains committed to the production," said Marcus Cheong, a producer and also the co-writer of the show's book and lyrics. Originally capitalized at around $14.5 million, "Angels" made news last month by announcing a run at Shreveport's Strand Theater that would have made the tuner the first legit production to benefit from Louisiana tax credits similar to those offered producers of films (Daily Variety, July 9).
