China issues anti-terrorism manual for Olympic games

Photograph: Fan Changguo/AP The Chinese government is briefing residents on how to handle everything from chemical attacks to hijacking, issuing a special new anti-terrorism manual weeks before the Olympics. "The book is practical. If correctly following its instructions, citizens are very much likely to escape and even stop a terrorist attack," the Public Security Bureau said in a statement. Beijing has stressed that security is the top priority for the games, which begin on August 8. It has promised that a 100,000-strong anti-terrorist force of police, commandos and other troops will be on alert.
