The growing convergence of film and gaming continues, this time with Ubisoft's acquisition of movie effect house Hybride Techologies. The Montreal-based effects company's previous work includes Sin City, 300, and the Spy Kids series. The deal means that the company will help give Ubisoft and its many game franchises better positioning within the film industry. So new Tom Clancy-related movies produced by Ubisoft maybe? This also means that Ubisoft will have an in-house effects production company to give its future game titles the kind of visual treatment usually reserved for Hollywood blockbusters. I certainly don't mind seeing storytelling in games get more cinematic, as long as it doesn't affect or hinder gameplay.
