Colombian police prevent FARC 'revenge' bombings

Colombian police have seized a tonne of explosives that they say FARC rebels were preparing to use in bomb attacks in revenge for Wednesday’s rescue of Ingrid Betancourt and other hostages. The haul was discovered at a farm outside Bogota and officials claim the guerrillas were planning a series of blasts over the coming days. Betancourt and 14 other high-profile hostages were rescued in a daring operation. Colombian agents, posing as members of an international NGO, duped the rebels into believing the captives were being taken to another jungle hideout. It was the latest in series of blows to the militant group, which has has lost several of its top leaders in recent months through death or capture.
