JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Virginia Senator John Warner has asked the Energy Secretary to consider nationalizing the speed limit to 55 miles per hour. With that decision, the Senator says more than 160 thousand barrels of oil will be saved a day, and more than four thousand lives will be saved. The energy department says fuel efficiency decreases rapidly when traveling faster than 60 mph. Every additional 5 mph over that is estimated to cost motorists “essentially an additional 30 cents per gallon in fuel costs”. “I think it’s better overall for the economy, traffic these days, I think it’s the better thing to do”, says Russell Philips.
