National › Strong quake hits Amami, Okinawa

Wednesday 09th July, 12:47 AM JST TOKYO — A strong offshore earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6 shook the southern Japanese island chain of Amami as well as the Okinawa islands on Tuesday afternoon but there is no danger of a tsunami, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The strongest tremor of lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 was recorded on the island of Yoron in the Amami island chain south of the main southern island of Kyushu.
