Karachi Capital City Police (Traffic) has intensified their drive against the violation of ladies compartments in public transport by announcing that in addition to punishing drivers, men travelling in the ladies section of buses, mini buses and coaches would be arrested. While this drive may result in the reduction in the violations occurring in the ladies compartment, it won’t solve the main issue – the paucity of public transport in the city. Ladies, especially working women, have been facing serious problems due to the travelling habits of some male passengers, but at the same time men don’t seem to have any other option but to avail every bit of accessible space for travelling.
