Bachendri Pal wants more women to take up mountaineering

New Delhi (PTI): Mountaineer Bachendri Pal, who entered the history book in 1984 by becoming the first Indian woman to climb the Mt Everest, is eager to continue with her journey to the peaks in a bid to inspire more women to take up adventure sports. "Let the women of the country come forward like me and take up mountaineering, which will help them to discover themselves," Pal, who recently led a nine-member all-women team to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa, said. The 54-year-old mountaineer, who feels more women of the country should change their mindset about taking up adventure sports, wants to "set example" by continuing with such expeditions even at this age.
