RAIL workers will hold a 24-hour strike to coincide with the day Pope Benedict XVI tours Sydney, their union says The New South Wales branch of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) today lodged its application for a 24-hour stoppage on July 17, in the middle of World Youth Day celebrations. July 17 has been dubbed "Super Thursday" by World Youth Day organisers, as the Pope will arrive via boat on Sydney Harbour then tour central Sydney. The 24-hour stoppage could cause commuter chaos, as the State Government has pleaded with commuters to leave their cars at home during the week-long World Youth Day event.
