The ex-Liverpool midfielder had been linked with Italian club AS Roma and also English club Portsmouth before agreeing to terms with the Turkish champions. The move comes as a shock to some, especially after the horrible crimes committed against former club Leeds United fans by Galatasaray fans in the 2000 UEFA Cup.
