New Mauritanian government faces no-confidence challenge

Forty deputies representing Mauritania's ruling National Pact for Development and Democracy (PNDD-ADIL) party and its allies endorsed a no-confidence motion Monday (June 30th) in Nouakchott against Prime Minister Yahya Ahmed El Waghef's government, APA reported. The 2-month old government does not reflect the will of the electorate, the deputies said, denouncing what they called the return to office of key members of former president Maaouya Ould Taya's regime. The no-confidence motion was proposed while President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, who has the power to dissolve the parliament, was attending the African Union summit in Egypt.
