By tittle-tattle: Lawmakers want tougher rules than 35MPG-2020 CAFE standard Posted on Thursday 26 June 2008 The House committee on climate change and energy independence has told the U.S. government that current CAFE regulations forcing carmaker fleet-wide fuel economy levels to average 35mpg by 2020 is not enough. Instead, the committee wants to see that deadline brought forward to 2015. The announcement comes from House committee Edward Markey who, along with other lawmakers, will put forward a new proposal to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The NHTSA will be accepting comments and proposals on the new fuel economy rules until Tuesday, July 1.
