A spokesman for the US Department of State said on Thursday that the US has faith in Turkish democracy. During his daily press briefing, upon a question about the US stance on the recent political developments in Turkey, US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said, "Well, ultimately, this is an issue that the Turkish people -- in this case, Turkish courts -- need to wrestle with." He continued: "We are strong supporters of democracy in Turkey and Turkish democracy, and we have faith in Turkish democracy. But ultimately, these questions about politics and religion and different social values are going to have to be ones that are resolved within the context of Turkish law, politics and their constitution."
