Kilmarnock goalkeeper Alan Combe has emerged as Dundee United manager Craig Levein's preferred choice to replace Lukasz Zaluska, who has agreed to join Celtic. Combe, 34, joined United from St Mirren in 1998 but left United to join Bradford City in 2003 after growing frustrated at being kept out of the first team by then-Scotland keeper Paul Gallacher. Now in his fifth season at Rugby Park, Combe's contract expires at the end of the season and he is currently allowed to speak to any interested party. However, now that Gordon Strachan has captured Zaluska on a pre-contract agreement, Levein needs a replacement and the prospect of landing a player of Combe's ability and experience without having to pay a transfer fee makes the veteran an attractive proposition.
