Rebel ambush kills 15

Khartoum - The Sudanese army said on Friday that 15 people were killed when Darfur rebels attacked a local government convoy with military escort in the far west of the conflict-strewn region. Rebels from the Justice and Equality Movement ambushed the convoy about 60 kilometres from the capital of West Darfur state, El Geneina, as it was travelling to Kulbus, further north on the border with Chad, the army said. The identity of the dead was not immediately clear. No one from JEM, the rebel group that attacked the Sudanese capital in May for the first time, was immediately reachable for comment.
