Focus on mental health care

Special Correspondent KOCHI: As more and more people tend to slip out of their minds in an increasingly complicated world, the World Mental Health Day, observed in Ernakulam district on Friday, focussed on the need to prioritise mental health care. Public meetings and campaigns were organised in the district to highlight the need to make mental health a priority and to widen people’s participation in care delivery. This year’s theme of the World Mental Health Day was ‘Making mental health a global priority—Scaling up services through citizen advocacy and action.’Hospitals and mental health professional bodies organised the events which were attended mostly by parents and relatives of the mentally ill, mental health professionals, care givers and NGOs attended.
