Bishop Joseph Befe Ateba was on Saturday, 4 October 2008 ordained the pioneer bishop of the new Kribi Diocese created by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on 19 June 2008.The Episcopal ordination ceremony at the Kribi ceremonial ground was witnessed by the Prime Minister Ephraim Inoni, personal representative of President Paul Biya, the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, Elisio Antonio Arioti, Archbishops and Bishops of Cameroon, some members of government, other church dignitaries, members of the elite and population of the Kribi Diocese and the South Province in general.
