Suspected FARC representative arrested in Spain

A woman suspected of acting for Colombia’s FARC guerillas in Spain has been arrested. Maria Remedios Garcia Albert, 57, was living in an apartment block near Madrid when she was detained. Spain’s Interior Ministry claims she was involved in raising funds for the FARC rebels fighting a separatist war in Colombia. She was arrested after the discovery of emails sent to her from the late FARC chief Raul Reyes. Colombian troops found computers in a raid on a FARC hideout in March, in which he was killed. The Colombian government recently tricked the rebels into handing over their most prized hostages, including the former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.
