Surgeons battle to save crash victim's legs

By Mike Edmonds and Grant McArthur SURGEONS worked throughout the night to save the life and legs of a man trapped in a horror bus crash in Victoria's Latrobe Valley. The 28-year-old, who was in the front passenger seat, wore the full force of the impact when a bus and the back of a slow-moving semi-trailer collided between Traralgon and Morwell yesterday. He was rammed three rows back, leaving his shattered body pinned between his seat and the underside of the steel trailer. The Traralgon man remained conscious and talked to rescuers during the three-hour battle to free him. Paramedics gave him two litres of blood transfusions and painkillers before he was finally freed and flown to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.
