SO 'Murray Mania' kicked in at Wimbledon this week after the London crowds finally warmed to the battling young Scot. Most commentators had put the previously lukewarm attitude of the crowds to Andy Murray down to his surly demeanour and a reaction to his wisecrack that he'd support any football team against England. Whether genuine or said as a joke, it certainly wound up the English tabloids and in turn the tennis set. But it is a widely held attitude north of the border – particularly when it comes to football. It is a wind-up stance for many who don't treat matters too seriously but also heartfelt by a large number of Scottish fans who were the real sufferers of "all those years of hurt" from the 1966 World Cup triumph which is still mentioned at every possible opportunity.
