Iceland Express delays launch of Gatwick base

Iceland Express has postponed the launch of a new link between London Gatwick Airport and capital city Reykjavik. The national carrier pushed the date for the first flight back to next spring, scrapping earlier plans to begin operating the five times weekly connection on September 16. A full refund or replacement booking has been offered to anyone who purchased tickets for one of the earlier flights. The airline's existing service between London Stansted Airport and Reykjavik remains unaffected. Airline spokesperson Birna Gudmundsdottir said that the decision to postpone the new route was taken in part because of increased fuel prices - with oil costs reaching a new high of $145 per barrel this week.
