Cross-Language Function

Crossing the language divide

Cross-language navigation exists to enable users to track down news from foreign sources that match their respective areas and topics of interest; locating, reading and interacting with foreign language news, press releases, forum and blog comments in your native tongue. The language barrier has been lifted.

Using the flags

Selecting one of the cross-language navigation flags provides users with a one-click solution to locate the corresponding foreign language sources for their category of choice, most importantly in their native tongue.

Example

1 Finding your topic

Finding your topic You are a native speaker (depending on the edition you are in) and you wish to find global news about a specific industry. First step is to search for categories within Newstin’s supplied structure. Categories can be located using 2 methods: The first is a simple keyword search. Second is via the Flash based visual interactive NewstinMap.

2 Crossing the language divide

Crossing the language divide Selecting a flag on the left side of the screen from a country will enable users to opt for their target source language. (Depending on the category, all or only a few of the flags may exist. The number of flags for an existing category will vary in relation to the number of sources and amount of information available in a particular region.) Clicking on Spain’s flag the user will be able to read all available news: articles/feeds/sources on the chosen topic from Spain in Spanish.

3 Translating your findings

Translating your findings Finding the content is only the start of it. What good is the material if it is incomprehensible? Newstin has integrated a foreign language machine component that provides on-the-fly translation of all articles within Newstin.

The language barrier is no more. Users of this feature are now able to read the same news, that citizens of the world read locally each and every day. Imagine being able to read what the French are reading in Le Monde, and the Chinese in The Peoples’ Daily. There are no limits to what can be uncovered and understood about the world when it becomes possible to learn what societies are writing and how they are thinking about global issues at large. Newstin launches a new era in news distribution, delivering once unreadable news and stories.
