Stephen Kines, Chief Newstin Evangelist
Stephen is Newstin’s Vice President of Business Development and General Counsel. He is currently spending the majority of his time in Newstin’s Silicon
Valley office but upon the closing of a Series A investment he will be primarily based where the core management team are based.
Stephen previously acted as outside counsel to the minority shareholders in their 2006 investment and the 2007 convertible note. In August 2007 Stephen moved his family from Prague to Silicon Valley to run the Newstin Silicon Valley office and lead the efforts in finding an international investor as well as to develop Newstin’s global strategy when it became an advertising supported model. He develops relationships with strategic partners and with advertising companies, works closely with Newstin’s US-based CFO and CMO as well developing the advertising strategy and efforts of Newstin.
Stephen is a qualified lawyer in his birth country of Canada, in the US and in his home the Czech Republic. He is ranked by the Financial Times Law Review as one of the top 25 Telecom/Media/Technology (TMT) lawyers in the world and is a founder of the CEE TMT boutique firm Kines. Prior to that he was a global equity partner of Linklaters where he headed the CEE TMT practice and performed a number of global management roles in the organization. He is also co-founder of the private equity fund BKS Capital Partners and has held various board positions in the CEE TMT sector including currently supervisory board member of Star 21.
